Atkinson is the cousin of Bayer, named after Bill Atkinson's iconic Macintosh dithering algorithm. While true Atkinson is error-diffusion (each pixel's quantization error propagates to its neighbors), this preset produces Atkinson's signature visual character, clustered blobby pixel groupings, via a single-pass blue-noise hash-threshold approximation. The result reads as the crunchier, more organic cousin of Bayer's even grid, with dark regions clustering tighter (Atkinson's defining trait). For designers building products with a Mac-classic aesthetic, this captures the specific "feel" of early HyperCard, MacPaint, and System 6 graphics that Bayer alone doesn't quite reach.
